This floor piece is my contribution to the open-air gallery at ‘The Hood’, an innovative space inside Ubbo, one of the biggest shopping malls in Europe. It is a big colourful lettering composition inspired by traditional moveable characters. To greet all the visitors I painted the word “Bem Vindo ao The Hood” [Welcome to The Hood in portuguese] at the entrance of the space. I decided to do a play on perspective, with an anamorphic approach, so that as you’re going down the stairs, everything lines up, and you see the letters on 3D popping up from the floor.
This challenge was quite hard to finish. Firstly, I had to paint laying down for the entirety of the project. Then I had to use resin-based ink, to ensure durability, which required quite a lot of adapting to, the mixture procedure had to be meticulous and there was a short time frame while the paint was usable. However, I’m really happy with the end result so it was all worth it!
